Frequently asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention in which stimuli from the wider environment is ignored. It is a deep trance state or merely a daydream. We can go in and out of hypnosis many times throughout the day. The subconscious mind is open to directions when we are in this trance state.

Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state, you will not lose consciousness and it is like daydreaming. It is an opportunity to relax and just let your mind wander.

Will you be able to control me?

Many people have concerns that a hypnotherapist can gain access to their subconscious and control or even read their minds. When I give you a hypnotic direction I cannot make you do anything that your own moral code of ethics would suggest otherwise. Free will cannot be taken away from you under hypnosis. As a hypnotherapist, I am only instrumental in helping you to achieve a state of trance and everyone possesses this ability to go into a trance, I am not going to make you eat onion or flap around like a chicken.

Will I be able to wake up?

A client can choose to leave their trance whenever they wish and they will be perfectly capable of functioning just as fully as they did beforehand. You may fall asleep and this is natural, you will still take in what is being said to you on a subconscious level during therapy.

What can hypnosis do?

The general start point of any trancework is with relaxation simply because a quiet, contemplative person is more likely to drop any existing barriers and consider a new approach to any situation that is happening in their lives.

It is when you are in this trance state that I can access the subconscious - which is the part of your brain that drives your responses and causes you to do such things as look both ways before crossing a road, or to scream when you see a spider. When accessing this part, you can calmly look at these responses and create new informed decisions as to how to react in any given situation in order to deal with it more appropriately in the future.

As with a fear of spiders, hypnosis will bypass this filter (fear) system, allowing new positive ideas and directions to take hold without being blocked by any feelings of threat or danger from the spider.

I will focus on what positive changes you are aiming for, what changes you can expect and then reinforce those goals whilst encouraging your mind away from any past limitations or negative thoughts as it begins to concentrate wholly on future success.
